Today, I’m opening up about a very personal experience—learning to cherish the present moment. I’m someone who often overthinks and gets easily affected by things.
This habit has led me to get stuck in thoughts about my past and worries about the future, which has been really tough at times.
My experience might be something a lot of you can relate to. Back in my home country, I was a top student and even started medical school.
But moving to a new country brought a lot of uncertainty, as I had to start everything from scratch.
I kept asking myself questions like “What will my future be?”, “Why am I so struggling now?”, “Is it too late to do that?”, or “How can I support my family?” These worries would keep me awake at night, making me feel like I was falling behind everyone else.
I was always thinking about what I did in the past or what could go wrong in the future. I couldn’t escape from these thoughts, and it made even small problems feel huge. It was a really hard time for me.

Every time I tried to work on something, my mind would wander off to worries about the future or regrets about the past.
It was like there was a constant buzz of distracting thoughts that made it impossible for me to concentrate. This lack of focus meant that tasks took longer to complete, and often, they weren’t done as well as they could have been.
But when I started to practice being present, everything changed. By focusing on the here and now, I could give my full attention to whatever task was at hand.
It was amazing to see how much more I could accomplish when my mind wasn’t drifting away. I was able to stick to my plans, finish tasks more efficiently, and the quality of my work improved significantly.
Being present helped me clear my mind of those distracting thoughts, allowing me to be more productive in everything I did.

And that made me wonder – does this mean I can’t be happy until I’ve achieved everything? Will I never really be happy? That’s a depressing thought.
But embracing the present has changed my perspective on happiness. Instead of always looking to the next big achievement, I’ve started to enjoy the here and now.
Let me give you an example: Rather than waiting to be happy only if my blog becomes a success, I’m actually happy right now, typing these very words you’re reading.
I’m enjoying the journey—the process of writing—more than the idea of future success because I’m doing what I truly love. What more could I ask for?
